Paperwork, Plans, Jobs and Songwriting

That title is a little packed, isn't it? The word "packed" is a good way to describe my life right now. I wouldn't have it any other way though! Well, why don't we just dive right in...

I started my first official job on August 1st. It is a part-time job although it feels more like a full-time. It's been a great first month working at "Cook's." I really like that it's a family owned, local store. It's a great environment and I really enjoy the people that I work with. I have learned SO many new things. I feel like in the past 6 months I have filled out more paperwork and done more "adult" things than ever. It has been overwhelming at times (I don't particularly enjoy working on a budget/money plan and balancing a checkbook) but it has been good for me to learn this stuff now so I won't be completely confused down the road.... ;)

On my one day off (Mondays) I will be teaching at Tonya's Academy of Dance and teaching violin. I have my littlies tap class and my one faithful clogging student that I teach on Monday nights and I have four violin students that I will be teaching on Monday afternoons! I am so looking forward to this. I thought about not doing any extra things and focusing on my job and college this year, but I just couldn't cut these two things out of my life. I love teaching too much. I wouldn't want to spend my day off doing anything else.

I am still doing college. I am studying for another CLEP exam right now that I plan on taking later this month. I am taking getting my Associate's Degree at my own pace. It's nice to not be in a major rush. I have a couple international trips coming up over the next year. I'll be going to the Philippines again next month and I am so excited about it already. I love the Philippines and the wonderful people that I became friends with while I was there last year. It's going to be a special time. I am also elated that Clara will be going with us this year. It will be her first mission trip and I know she'll catch the "missions bug" like I have. I can't wait to watch her experience so many new things. Good and bad. ;) I will be headed back to China next summer. I am already looking forward to this, as well! Going to China might just have to become a yearly thing for me. I really love that place.

One of the most recent and well kept secrets that I have been working on is a songwriting project. It started formulating itself after my trip to China in January. It has been a whole 9 months since then and the song is finally finished. I had never written a song before. Never really even tried. It was hard and time consuming, but I really enjoyed it. I have a few other random lyrics jotted down in a notebook that will most likely become songs too. I think it becomes easier to write them after the first one. I can't wait to perform this song for people in the near future. It's something that I have felt called to sing about for a long time. And who knows.... Maybe someone will like it and want to record it for me! We'll see.... :)

This has been quite a hodgepodge of a blog post, I know.... I wanted to update a little on my life and things that I'm doing now. I am really, truly happy. I like the busy-ness, new experiences and meeting so many new people. I like laying my head on my pillow at night feeling like I've spent my day doing things that I enjoy. Things that I won't look back on 20 years from now and say "why did I waste my time on that?" That's the thing I see most in people my age... Either they hate what they're doing or they have no idea what they want for their lives. I don't have it all figured out, but I feel like every day gets me a little closer to wherever it is I'm going. I'm not waiting on anything or wishing things were different. I'm just happy to live the life that I've been given and use the things that God has given me to teach, train and build up others. Until next time, friends!
