The Perfect Weekend

After a weekend like this I can't help but feel so refreshed. On Friday I spent that afternoon/night at MerleFest. My cousins and aunt and uncle were gracious enough to let me tag along with them... We ate as much food as our stomachs would allow and listened to music late into the night. As a music person I absolutely love MerleFest. This year's lineup certainly didn't disappoint. There were some really stellar artists there this year.

We got to hear the Celtic band "Scythian" and they were amazing. Such a crowd pleaser. I danced around the entire time they played (I looked insane, but who cares... I mean it's MerleFest, right?!) I think every person in the crowd was tapping a toe. Friday night was the "Transatlantic Tour" and James Taylor was in the show. I LOVE James Taylor. His music speaks to my soul. I know that sounds unbelievably cliché, but go and listen to "Copperline" or "Something In The Way She Moves" and if those songs don't do a little something inside of your heart then I don't know what kind of heart you've got beating in your chest. He is such a phenomenal songwriter and was equally as wonderful in person as he is on any one of his many albums.

The 6-8:30 show was on the Watson Stage and about halfway through the show James came out onstage with his guitar in hand and his flat cap on his head. He sat down on his stool and and started the set with none other than "Carolina In My Mind." The whole crowd, a literal thousands and thousands of people, sang along.

"In my mind I'm gone to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine?
Can't you just feel the moonshine?
Ain't it just like a friend of mine

To hit me from behind? Yes, I'm gone to Carolina in my mind"

Some of the younger ones looked up at their parents faces as they sang along, teary eyed, a once in a lifetime moment. Some swayed in their seats and some videoed with their phones. The air was filled with the smooth voice of a legendary man singing a song that is relatable in so many ways. The overwhelming feeling of nostalgia filling many hearts and taking minds back to memories from the past. It was magical.

That's the incredible thing about music. It bridges such a gap. James Taylor's music has touched the hearts of young and old alike. You've got to be a really talented person to be able to do something like that.

I took my camera along and snapped some pictures. I'll share them below. I also took a few of Charlotte this afternoon that were priceless. She insisted she wear a dress to play outside in tonight and as soon as I saw her sitting in her sandbox with her hair pulled into a little ponytail, wearing a little dress with flowers on it I made Clara run to the house and grab my camera (I told her I would pay her two dollars in quarters if she would get it for me.) ;) Charlotte is one of the most hilariously unique little girls I've ever been around. She quite enjoys hearing the clicking of my camera. I think she knows she's something special. I'll share a few of those down below too...
